About The Pickle

Making sense of global chaos, one crisis at a time.

The Geopolitical Pickle - A Dill-ightful Dive Into Global Affairs

    Our Mission

Founded in 2022, The Geopolitical Pickle was created to provide accessible geopolitical analysis—vital for an ever-changing world. In an age of information overload and polarized narratives, understanding global affairs has never been more challenging—or more important.

We're not here to tell you what to think. We're here to give you the context, history, and multiple perspectives you need to form your own informed opinions about the world's most pressing issues.

Whether it's great power competition in the Indo-Pacific, climate-driven migration in the Sahel, or the future of European security, we dive deep into the forces shaping our world—always with rigor, often with a touch of irreverence.

    Origins of The Geopolitical Pickle

The Geopolitical Pickle was born out of long conversations about the changing nature of global politics during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ronan Wordsworth and Juan Francisco Muñoz first met while studying a Master's degree in Geopolitical Studies at Charles University in Prague. As the world navigated lockdowns, shifting alliances, and growing geopolitical tensions, many evenings were spent discussing international affairs, strategy, and the forces shaping the modern world.

Despite coming from very different backgrounds, the two quickly discovered a shared fascination with geopolitics and a common ambition: to make geopolitical analysis more accessible to a wider audience.

Juan, originally from Spain, had experience working within Spanish domestic politics and immigration policy, while Ronan, from Australia, had previously worked as a civil engineer across several continents before transitioning into the study of geopolitics. These different professional perspectives helped shape the analytical approach that would later define the project.

Over time, those informal discussions evolved into an idea — to build a platform that combined geopolitical analysis, visualisation, and accessible commentary to help explain complex global dynamics.

From those conversations, The Geopolitical Pickle was born.

Today, the project brings together podcasts, newsletters, maps, and analytical deep dives aimed at making the forces shaping global power easier to understand.

Serious geopolitics — with just enough pickle.

    Our Approach

At The Geopolitical Pickle, our methodology is rooted in data-driven analysis. We begin with the facts — sourcing information from official records, verified datasets, academic research, and on-the-ground reporting — before interpreting what the data reveals about broader geopolitical trends.

We believe that good analysis starts with objectivity. Rather than approaching topics with a predetermined narrative, we let the evidence guide the conversation. Our goal is to present multiple perspectives, acknowledge complexity, and avoid the oversimplification that often dominates geopolitical commentary.

Every piece of content — whether a podcast episode, newsletter article, or deep dive — follows this principle: gather, verify, contextualise, and explain. We combine quantitative data with qualitative insight to build a fuller picture of the forces at play.

From mapping conflict zones and tracking resource flows to analysing diplomatic shifts and military deployments, our work is designed to inform rather than persuade. We aim to equip our audience with the context they need to draw their own conclusions about the world's most pressing challenges.

Evidence first. Analysis second. Opinion clearly labelled.
